Lost Manuscript

Babel MS 38

Only two insubstantial strips have so far been identified from this manuscript but what does survive demonstrates that this was a volume of plainchant in large format, presumably for choir use.

History and further information

Information on dismantling:

It is notable that the dismantling of this manuscript can be dated, on the evidence of the binding in which it appears, to a five year period: 1599-1604. The binder who used it may have had access to it for some years before that date-range but it still suggests that the volume had managed to survive the Reformation destructions of a half a century earlier.
